Do Skin Care Products Actually Stop or Reduce Wrinkles? Here’s the Truth!

Do you often wonder who to believe about skin care? Some skincare brands would have us believe that a pot of their cream will take years off us (almost instantly) while the  naysayers tell us it’s a load of rubbish. Who on earth are we to believe?

Well, first I want you to understand what actually causes wrinkles.

As I discussed in my previous blog What Actually Causes our Skin to Wrinkle – and Can you Really Slow it Down?  I explain how the body’s natural reduction in collagen causes our skin to sag and wrinkle.  I included a list of all the things we do that actually makes this process happen faster! Yes, there were some surprises there for some of you!

However, is that all we can do?  Can’t we just slap on tons of face-cream and hope for the best?

Here’s a bit of technical information for you

If your skin is showing signs of redness or dryness, which is most of us at this time of the year,  it means your ‘stratum corneum’ is not protected – and it is this lack of protection that increases the chance of your skin cells not functioning properly either.

So what’s that got to do with wrinkles?

Well, if our skin cells are not functioning properly, they literally can’t do their job, so we’re up against it from the get-go. The idea here is to protect and get more collagen into the skin – and no I’m not talking surgery or injections!  I’m talking via a skin care cream – but does it work? If if it does, then how?

Can we get more collagen into the skin from a skincare product?

Even though collagen is formed naturally by your body, because of ageing and less production, we can add it topically, via a skin cream.  However, the size of collagen molecules are large, and if they’re not in the right ‘formation’ they actually cannot enter the skin easily through topical creams – they just sit on the skin.

Therefore, the only way you can get collagen into the skin via a topical product is if the collagen is in the form of a ‘peptide.’ These are either derived from amino acids(protein) or from stimulating the natural collagen production and hyaluronic acid in the skin. This then increases the natural hydration in your skin cells.

So, what does that actually mean?

Now, there are many skincare products on the market out there and I certainly cannot vouch for the others – however here’s one I know what I’m talking about.

The Dermaviduals skincare (that we have in our clinic) actually mimics your skin’s natural skin membrane structure –  and has the ability to carry something that is called ‘mono substances’ to a cellular level in your skin. This ends up meaning that your skin gets the best chance of accepting these topical products, and the collagen.

So the answer is yes, with a skincare product like Dermaviduals who’s unique delivery system of serums and creams, it can work indeed.  Giving your skin a more youthful, dewy and firmer appearance. However – there’s still more you can do!

But wait there’s more!

Have you ever heard of Dermal Rolling?  Or CIT treatments? Oh, my goodness you’re going to love this one.  Get ready for an extra burst of natural collagen – and this can be done either in our salon at Vibe, or you can even do them at home!
